Binny & Vincent - Cams Hall and Kams Palace

Yesterday saw the wedding of Binny & Vincent in Cams Hall. The day started early with coverage at Binny's parents house in North End. As this was such a large wedding, and photography important to both Binny & Vincent I had an experienced wedding photographer second shooting for me, and he started with the Groom and his family in Southsea.

We both covered getting ready shots - I focussed on the make-up, hair and beautiful dress with Matt covering Vincent's clothing and accessories (watch, cufflinks etc) and then both of us shooting the cars. I left Binny's mums in plenty of time to get to Cams Hall to meet up with Matt - see Vincent and then check out the ceremony room as it was not only going to be full to capacity but we were working with two videographers, and an additional camera providing a wireless link downstairs into another rooms at Cams for some additional guests not allowed in the ceremony room for fire regulations. Add the harp and you can imagine that both Matt and I were squeezed in - although in the perfect position.

Once again we were allowed to shoot throughout the ceremony - keeping it discreet and in consideration of the nature of the gathering. This didn't stop us getting some great shots from both angles. After the signing we processed out and Binny & Vincent were met by a shower of confetti inside the Hall on the stairs from one of the downstairs guests......covered they went and grabbed a drink and mingled with the guests whilst we got some great reportage moments....with lots of family groups to shoot due to the diverse countries that guests has come in from we made our way to a shaded and wind-free area of the grounds to cover of the list. Matt continued to shoot at a distance capturing some lovely moments whilst I worked through the groups.

Once these were done we got a shot of everyone from the top floor of Cams Hall and the guests dispersed whilst I worked with Binny & Vincent to get some contemporary and stylish semi-posed shots using the interior staircase which is lovely and the front of the building, examples of which are below. A short while later we grabbed a magnificent scenic of the entire frontage with the vintage rolls-royce and happy couple in the foreground - setting the scene of the day.

A short ride later and we arrived at Kams Palace in Locksheath. Working quickly as the guests began to arrive we documented the room, and the cake and I shot some establishing images of the exterior and interior which could be used as background images on the digital pages of the album. We were then treated to a Tea Ceremony - an ancient custom at Chinese weddings in which the bride and groom serve tea to the elders - receiving jewelry or a red envelope containing money. Following a fake cake cut and the announcement of the bride and groom we went upstairs and were treated to a delicious meal and some soft refreshments ideal after such a long time working, but before long we were back in action for the speeches, bouquet and garter toss, and the traditional toasting of each table and Binny wearing a stunning red silk dress and the presents received during the tea ceremony.

As the bridal party and guests enjoyed the second half of their 10-course Chinese Banquet I photographed some details of the fun casino which has set-up at the end of the room and then the guests playing roulette and blackjack as they began to finish eating. The evening began to come to a close as I photographed the cake cutting proper and then the first dance of the newlyweds and the parents dance which followed immediately afterwards.

My final duty of the day was to take an outdoor portrait of Vincent & Binny - now in a shocking pink dress made for dancing the night away in - lit by the video light from one of the videographers. With this in the bag I said my goodbyes to the couple, some of the guests and Barbara Collins the wedding coordinator for the event and slipped away in the late evening to back up the cards.

Here are some images from the day - more to follow as I edit down my personal favourites from a very special wedding.
